UN Suppresses Report About Iraqi Prejudices 8—Friday, February 10,

UNITED NATIONS, N.Y. —
Among the loudly ardent cham-
pions of human rights at the
United Nations, none is more en-
thusiastically articulate than the
Soviet Union and the Arab States.
Ignoring — or denying — that their
governments violate Jewish human
rights in the religious, cultural,
economic and social fields, they
serve on the Human Rights Com-
mission, participate in the studies
conducted by that Commission's
SubcomMission on Prevention of
Discrimination and Protection of
Minorities; always beat the drums
for human rights. Among the Arab
states, none is more energetic
in those respects than Iraq.
Recently, when an effort was
made in the subcommission to
present certain facts about dis-
crimination in a number of coun-
tries, the Soviet Union intervened
and. after an argument. had one
section of the lengthy report killed,
so that that section does not even
appear anywhere in the United
Nations records or achives.
The USSR's objection was un-
derstandable. First, the mur-
dered section referred to anti-
Jewish, human rights violations
in the Soviet Union. Secondly,
the man who had drawn up the
entire report, including the of-
fending section. was an Israeli,
Tel Aviv District Judge Zeev
W. Zeltner — and Israel is al-
ways fair game for Soviet
attacks here. But many observers
failed to understand why an
Iraq representative—not a mem-
ber of the subcommission —
supported the Soviet call for sup-
pression of one section of the
overall report. Since that section
had been totally erased. the rea-
son for the Iraqi's stand seemed
mysterious. I t is a' mystery no
longer. The section included
some stringent reports about
Ira q's legal discrimination
against its Jews. --

WE ARE PROUD TO

PRESENT OUR

7966 MAN OF THE YEAR:

JACK WARNER

1/1

Jack Warner
963-8400

Distinction in any profession is very largely made up of things that cannot

be measured. It reflects the something "extra" that a man brings to his

work — a combination of knowledge, experience, creative ideas and genuine

satisfaction in doing something worthwhile and doing it well.

We are proud of his accomplishment . . . proud of the quality of service

upon which it is based ,

. and in recognition, this message is published.
