NAPLES (JTA) — Efforts to locate possible survivors of the cap-
sized 1,350-ton Israeli freighter, Hashlosha, have been discontinued by
the Italian Navy, it was announced by the admiralty operations office
here Sunday.
The vessel, with 22 aboard, including 20 crew members, 15 of them
Israelis, and two women, apparently sank in the Mediterranean Jan.
24. Italian search and rescue operations were called off after two
overturned life boats and some debris belonging to the Israeli vessel
were found near the island of Ponza, west of Naples. No bodies were
found.
Engaged in the search, in addition to the Italian navy, were the
Italian air force, units of the United States Sixth Fleet, and the Israeli
ship Moledet. The capsized freighter was on its way to France, after
unloading a cargo of cement in Sicily.
