Three-Faith Women's Groups to Gather
forAnnual Brotherhood Tea at Shaarey Zedek
The Sisterhood of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek will serve as co-hostesses
with the Mercy College of Detroit
League and the Westminster Wom-
an's Association at the annual
Brotherhood Tea, this year to be
held at Shaarey Zedek, 1 p.m. Tues-
day.
Each of the co-hostessing groups
has issued 100 invitations. Religious
leaders of the three faiths will also
attend the tea, under the auspices
of the Detroit Round Table of the
National Conference of Christians
and Jews.
This is the third consecutive
year that these same three insti-
tutions have been represented by
their women's auxiliaries in
meeting together at tea and en-
gaging in discussion.
Mrs. Morris Adler will serve as
discussion leader, and Mrs. David
Kliger, coordinator of this tea, will
preside.
Greetings will be extended by
Mrs. Peter A. Martin, president of
the Sisterhood of Shaarey Zedek;
Mrs. C. A. McKenny, dean of
women at Mercy. College and pres-
ident of the Mercy College of De-
troit League; and Mrs. Thomas

berg.
Because of the kosher kitchens
at Shaarey Zedek, no foods may
be prepared outside of the syna-
gogue and brought in. As a result,
the Catholic and Protestant wo-
men will join Shaarey Zedek Sister-
hood members in the synagogue's
kitchen the day before the tea, and
together will prepare the foods for
the following afternoon.
Howard Danzig, executive direc-
tor of Shaarey Zedek, and Sidney
Rube, ritual director, will conduct
tours of the building before and af-
ter the tea.

Fashions, food and fellowship
will be featured when Adas Shalom
Sisterhood holds its annual donor
luncheon noon Wednesday at the
social hall, announced Mrs. Joseph
Katchke, president.
Donor Chairman Mrs. Carl Lich-
tenstein and her committee have
arranged to have
a preview of the
fashions and col-
ors for spring.
Walter Mayer is
coordinating the
showing of cos-
tumes from lead-
ing houses. Hel-
ene Freund will
describe the fash-
ions modeled by Mrs. Lichtenstein
members of the sisterhood.
The afternoon will be climaxed
by the presentation of prizes.

of United Jewish Appeal Division
Mrs. Benjamin Jones of Hamil-
ton Rd. has been appointed a
member of the national board of

Hadassah Starts
Community School
Volunteer Program
Detroit Chapter of Hadassah will
provide volunteers to assist chil-
dren at the Higgenbotham School,
20119 Wisconsin, it was announced
this week. -
Mrs. Abe Zitomer and Mrs. Sid-
ney Winer, who implemented the
transactions of the program with
the Detroit Board of Education,
advise that volunteers are being
sought to give two hours a week
to help a child. Orientation ses-
sions at Hadassah House are con-
ducted by members of the board
of education. Volunteers are asked
to call Mrs. Zitomer, 861-7340, or
Mrs. Winer, 863-3386.
Mrs. Mortimer Jacobson, na-
tional president of Hadassah, rep-
resented the organization at, a
White House conference last year
to launch "Operation Headstart."
Hadassah endorsed "Operation
Headstart"—a vital facet of Presi-
dent Johnson's anti-poverty pro-
gram, and called upon its mem-
bers throughout the United States
to volunteer their services for
underprivileged, pre - kindergarten
children.
The Detroit Chapter has taken
this first step in the war against
illiteracy and poverty.
Mrs. Marvin Ordower
Heads Women in
Windsor Fund Drive
Mrs. Marvin Ordower, chairman
of this year's Windsor Welfare
Fund Campaign women's cabinet,
announced a quota of $18,000 to be
raised during the next month and
culminating with a dessert lun-
cheon Feb. 22 at the Jewish Cen-
ter, Windsor.
Mrs. Ordower, who served as
co-chairman last year, is a past
president of Bnai Brith Women, a
first vice president of the Sister-
hood of Shaar Hashomayim and
recording secretary for the I. L.
Peretz School's Study Club.
Mother of three daughters, Mrs.
Ordower is married to a man simi-
larly active in the community, Mar-
vin Ordower being on the execu-
tive committee of the Jewish
Community Council.
Mrs. Charles Zalev, a native De-
troiter, is co-chairman of the cam-
paign. Divisional chairmen are
Mesdames S. N. Cohen, Boris No-
sanchuk, Morris Tabachnick, Mor-
ton Bernholtz, Nat Grossman, Her-
bert Brudner, Barry Morse and
Leo Gordner.
