Israel's Agriculture Skills
Sought by Europeans

JERUSALEM (ZINS)—Not only
underdeveloped countries, but even
some very advanced European
countries are anxious to learn from
Israel some of its agricultural
knowhow. In this area young Israel
has virtually accomplished mira-
cles. Thus, prior to the establish-
ment of the state, one dunam
(quarter of an acre) of soil pro-
duced 120 kilograms (44 pounds) of
corn. The same dunam today pro-
duces 1,000 kilograms. Several
years ago a dunam of soil yieldecl,-- ---J
220 kilograms of wheat, wherea.s.
today the yield is 650 kilograms.
Haaretz, in publishing these fig-
ures, adds that even American
experts are no match for the Is-
raeli economic advisers who are
serving so successfully (in under-
developed countries. The paper
comments that in addition to their
excellent agricultural skill, the
Israelis are not suspected of ul-
terior motives by the underdevel-
oped countries by virtue of the
fact that they themselves come
from a small country and do not
look down upon the native born.
