Workmen's Circle Center.

show on TV.
Also starring on the program
will be vocalist Vivienne della
Chiesa, who has been heard on
radio, TV and at leading night-
clubs throughout the United States
and Canada.
Barclay Shaw, whose charac-
terization of well-known person-
alities have amused audiences on
TV and in clubs, and the Aya-
Ions, Israeli comedy troup, will
complete the evening.
The orchestra will be under
the direction of Hal Gordon.
Mrs. Joseph Rodman and Ar-
thur C. Schott, vice presidents of
their respective councils, are the
fund-raising chairmen. They ask
all Bnai Brith members to con-
tact their lodges and chapters for
ticket information.

the main address at the Human
Relations Seminar for Bnai Brith
members 11 a.m. Sunday at the
Labor Zionist Ins-
titute.

Schools;" "The Current Status of
the American Fascist Move-
ment;" and "An International
Overview: Is There a Neo-Nazi
Renaissance?"
The planning committee for the
seminar includes Mrs. Saul
Greenfield, conference chairman,
Gary Alter, Mrs. Andrew Berger,
David Bittker, Mrs. David Levine,

leaders, who will arrive in Detroit
next Friday for a four-day stay.
On Sabbath Eve, Jan. 20, Dr.
Bentwich will deliver the sermon
at Temple Beth El. On Monday
evening, Jan. 23, at the Labor
Zionist Institute, Dr. Bendtwich
will addresss a public meeting un-
der auspices of the Metropolitan
Detroit Bnai Brith Men's and Wom-
en's Councils, with Pusgah Lodge
and chapter as hosts.
Bernard Panush and Mrs. David
Levine, presidents of the Councils,
and the chairmen of their respec-
tive arrangements committees,
Alan Warsen and Mrs. Morris Fish-
kin, extended an invitation to the
entire community to attend the
Bentwich lecture.
The Bnai Brith function is being,
arranged as part of the organiza-
tion's adult education program.
There are more than 20 Bnai Brith
adult education groups here and
more are in formation.
Dr. Bentwich, now 84, traces
his Jewish training to the time
when he was taught Hebrew by
the late Prof. Solomon Schechter
who later became president of
the Jewish Theological Seminary
of America.
Born in London in 1883, he was
educated at Trinity College of

The bride is the daughter of Mr.
Philip Marlowe of Snowden Ave.
and the late Lillian Marlowe. The
bridegroom is the son of Mrs.
Matteo Vocino of Detroit and the
late Mr. Vocino.

She was attended by her sister,
Lynne Deborah Marlowe, and
Nancy Karch, bridesmaid. Mr. Vo-
cino's best man was Richard
Sparr, and Herbert Spiwak was
usher.
After their honeymoon, the cou-
ple is living on Hartwell Ave.

emigration for the Council for
German Jewry, of which Lord
Samuel was president.
He visited the United States in
1935, 1936 and 1941 in connection
with these tasks and continued
his rescue role in England from
1939 to 1943.

He has played an important role
in numerous other relief, rescue ,-
and rehabilitation movements and
in organizing legal aid for refu-
gees from Nazism.
Dr. Bentwhich retired from
the Hebrew University Chair in
1952 and is now chairman of Eng-
lish Friends of the Hebrew Uni-
yersity and deputy chairman of
the board of governors of the
university. He spends several
months a year in Israel with
Mrs. Bentwich.
Dr. Bentwich visited Ethiopia
four times at the request of Jew-
ish bodies to help the Judaized
tribe of the Falashas.
His many books are about Is-
rael, international affairs, biogra-
phies of Dr. Schechter, Judah Mag-
nes and Brigadier Kisch. He has
honorary doctorates from several
universities throughout the world.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard N. Simons
will host the Bentwiches at some
of the functions arranged for them
during their Detroit visit.

Bnai Brith and Metropolitan Groups
Plan Allied Campaign Activities

The Metropolitan Detroit Bnai
Brith Council, in conjunction with
the Jewish War Veterans and other
affiliated organizations which en-
compass the metropolitan division
of the Allied Jewish Campaign,
have had several meetings to date
to formulate plans for the 1967
Allied Jewish Campaign.
Bernard Panush, president of the
Bnai Brith Council; Louis E. Bar-
den, chairman of the metropolitan
division; Alan Nathan and Edward
Schlussel, co-chairmen of t h e
metropolitan division; Gary Alter,
executive director, Bnai Brith
Council; Sol Drachler, assistant
director, Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion; and Mrs. Max Chomsky, di-
rector, metropolitan division, Al-
lied Jewish Campaign, set into
motion the campaign activities.
Nathan announced that a "Presi-
dent's Forum" led by the president
of the Federation, Hyman Safran,
will be held Jan. 30, at the new
Jewish Home for the Aged, Borman
Hall.

Series on Jewish-Catholic Relations

• The Detroit chapter of the Amer-
ican Jewish Committee and Gesu
Parish in northwest Detroit will
co-sponsor a major series of four
Sunday evening programs on re-
lationships between Jews and Cath-
olics, it was announced by Detroit
Chapter President Robert Alpern.
The series "Catholic-Jewish Per-
spectives: 1967," will begin at 8
p.m. at various locations, the first
to be Feb. 5 at Gesu Parish. Dis-
cussing the Vatican II Declaration
on Jewish-Catholic Relations will
be Rabbi Irwin Groner of Cong.
Shaarey Z e d e k and a Catholic
speaker to be designated.
On Feb. 19, at the Jewish Cen-
ter, there will be a consideration
of what is a Catholic and what is
a Jew. Featured will be Rabbi
Jacob Segal of Cong. Adas Shalom
and a Catholic speaker to be de-
signated.
On March 5 at Gesu Parish,
there will be an analysis of
stereotypes and group images of
Jews and Catholics by Prof.
Leonard Moss of Wayne State
Univresity's sociology department
and Dr. La1Iaurice Gardner, a
psychologist.
At Gesu Parish March 19, there

ately prior to that he paid his first
visit to Palestine and his second
visit was in 1911. He practiced as
a barrister until 1912 and then ac-
cepted a post in the Egyptian Min-
istry of Justice in preparation for
his career in Palestine.
When World War I broke out,
he was assigned to the British
forces in Egypt and was an officer
in the Camel Transport Corps,
taking part in the advance across
Sinai to Palestine.
In 1918 he was appointed senior
judicial officer of the British mili-
tary administration in Palestine
and when Sir Herbert Samuel was
appointed High Commissioner he
became legal secretary and then
attorney general of the mandatory
government.
In 1931 he left that office be-
cause of the riots of 1929 "in
which," he explains, "I was shot
by an Arab. "The Colonial Of-
fice wanted me to be Chief Jus-
tice in a colony and I was willing
to go."
In 1932 he was appointed part-
time professor of international re-
lations at the Hebrew University
in Jerusalem. When the Hitler per-
secutions started in 1933, he was
engaged in rescue and emigration
work, first as deputy of the High
Commissioner of the League of
Nations for Refugees, Dr. James

versity of Michigan's philosophy
department. Also on this program
will be Dr. George McMorrow of
the philosophy department at Naz-

Co-chairmen of the series are
Father John Schwarz, pastor at
Gesu Parish, and Dr. Leonard Gor-
don, Michigan area director of the
AJCommittee.
Father Schwarz and Dr. Gordon
noted that this program is a sign-
ificant new effort to establish mean-
ingful dialogue between neighbors
as well as the scholars participat-
ing in the programs.
Other members of the planning
committee include Mr. and Mrs.
Lewis Grossman, Mr. and Mrs.
Bruce Allen, Mr. and Mrs. John
Hathaway, Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Paquette, Mrs. Jerome Cavanagh,
Rabbi Irwin Groner, Dr. Albert
Elazar and Rabbi Leonard Cahan.

Sunday, Feb. 19, has been desig-
nated as `Bnai Brith Kit Distribu-
tion Day." A continental brunch
at the Jewish Center has been ar-
ranged for all Bnai Brith Allied
Jewish Campaign workers. This
will be followed by Bnai Brith "M"
Day on Feb. 26, working toward a
maximum effort for a one-day
complete coverage of Bnai Brith
campaign kits. The balance of the
campaign kits for the metropolitan
division will be distributed on
March 12.
