One of the problems is that the student union has failed to capital- ize on the tremendous recent ex- pansion of French Jewry as a re- sult of immigration from North Africa. Other issues before the congress are the situation of the Jews-in the Soviet Union and anti- Semitism in France. dailyd, brorcpcers., 1 9 an. 6 to Apr, 2 100 of 250 rms .! HAIFA A four-year research project undertaken to assist Israel to exploit its potassium and phos- phate deposits to best advantage, has just been completed under the auspices of the Technion's Re- search and Development Founda- tion. The work was carried out by Mrs. S. Scherzer and Dr. J. Hagin, associate professor in the Lowder- milk Faculty of Agricultural En- gineering and head of the fertilizer development and soil fertility laboratory. It deals with the value and performance of potassium metaphosphate, a highly concen- trated form of potassium and phosphate. "For Israel to export her potas- sium and phosphate deposits as raw materials, or even as partially processed materials is," as Prof. Hagin points out, "obviously un- economic." Processed in highly concentrated form, the savings, particularly in transport, would make it possible to compete prof- itably on the world market. A series of greenhouse tests were made in which crops were grown in as wide a range of dif- ferent soils as possible. Some soils were even brought from abroad for the purpose. A comparison showed potassium metaphosphate to be at least as efficient as con- ventional fertilizers and, in certain cases, superior to them. In addi- tion, it required smaller applica- tions in some cases to give com- parable results. R ORE PRIM . AIR CONDITIONED KOSHER CUISINE TV IN EVERY ROOM • • • • HOTEL Crystal. Chagall Yes or No? Works Gone From Moscow Gallery MOSCOW — Tass, the Soviet press agency, reported that several works by Marc Chagall were in- cluded in an exhibition of water colors, thus giving rise to the possibility that the Russian-born artist was being "rehabilitated." However, Raymond H. Anderson, special correspondent to the New York Times, said, upon checking, that there were no Chagall works on exhibit in the display. Chagall's paintings were removed from So- viet museums in the 1920s after he had emigrated. A Tass spokesman insisted that the works had been "there in the morning." But a correc- tion deleting the name of Chagall from the Tretyakov Gallery exhibit was sent on the Tass wire. In Paris, friends of Chagall called the whole affair as "a tempest in a teapot," saying that the gallery owns some of the most important Chagall oils, but only one major watercolor, a miniature. They added that there had been talk in Moscow for many years about the possibility of exhibiting Chagall anew. • KOSHER HOTEL of the Year!
