`Weekday' or 'Workday'?

With reference to the correction
of the "inaccurate" excerpt com-
mented upon by Rabbi Joseph Nad-
ler (which incidentally was ex-
pertly treated as behooves a tal-
mudist) in the Dec. 5 16 edition of
The Jewish News—I wish to offer
the following observation:
It is plausible to assume that
. . . there was a misprint of the
word "workday"—meant, or i n•
tended, to read "weekday.". . .
In the Oct. 28, 1966 edition of The
Jewish News, the term in the
quoted passage from the Shulhan
Arukh of Rabbi Joseph Karo, un-
der the title "Who May Receive
Charity?" was actually and cor-
rectly transliterated as "weekday."
The entire passage reads "Rather
make the Sabbath a weekday than
be dependent on men."
The term "weekday" is the
equivalent to the paraphrase of
Rabbi Nadler's translation, namely
"week-like."
