Muscles Run Machines in Rehovot
For the first time in man's his-
tory, muscle power has been put
to use in machines, at the Weiz-
mann Institute of Science in
Rehovot. the cover story in the
Dec. 3 issue of Saturday Review
reports.
The Israeli scientists have thus
developed what John Lear. science
editor of Saturday Review, calls
"man's first robot with muscles."
Several different models of the
robot are converting energy in the
same way that human and animal •
muscles do. One of the models can'
raise or lower levers - another can
turn a crankshaft with a piston
drive.

principle may be applied in re-

of Israel and those of other coun-
tries where fresh water is scarce.
