Bertha Schwartz, Dr. Henry Herrmann,
Albert's Cofounder Humanities Prof at

Inc., women's specialty shop, died
Dec. 3 at age 66.
Mrs. Schwartz and her husband,
Albert founded the shop in 1932
which today numbers 11 stores in
the city and suburbs.
Born in Russia, Mrs. Schwartz
was a Detroit resident for 45 years,
a member of Temple Emanu-El
and Cong. Shaarey Zedek. In addi-
tion, she was a life member of
Denver League and Purity Chapter,
Order of the Eastern Star, Hadas-
sah, Women's American ORT, ,
Jewish National Fund, Bnai Brith
Women and Knollwood and Town
Country Clubs.
She leaves her husband, Albert,
19410 Stratford; a son, Ernest; a
daughter, Mrs. William (Con-
stance) Klinsky; a sister, Mrs.
Yetta Benaderet; and five grand-
children.

Dr. Henry Herrmann, professor
of humanities and head of the
philosophy of education department
at Wayne State University, died
Sunday at age 64.
Born in New York City, Dr. Her-
rmann graduated from the City
College of New York in 1923. He
moved to Detroit after six years
with the War Department and be-
came a teacher in Wayne County
schools for two years. He joined
the WSU faculty in 1949 after
receiving his masters degree, and
later received his Ph.D. in 1952 .
Dr. Herrmann, 630 Merrick, was
a member of the American Civil
Liberties Union, the National and
Midwest Philosophy of Education
societies. American Association of
University Professors and Wayne
State University Chapter of the
American Federation of Teachers.
Surviving are his wife, Ella; a
son, Harvey; a daughter, Mrs.
Anna Hartman, Age 67

Zell L. Goldsmith, a life resident
of Detroit and past president of
Cong. Bani Israel, died Sunday at
age 87.
Goldsmith, a retired ladies'
ready-to-wear merchant, lived at
18281 Pinehurst. He leaves two
sons. Ralph R. and Bill of Sioux
City; two daughters, Mrs. Blanche
Holden and Mrs. Harry K. (Sis)
Rosen; nine grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren.

Samuel Levinson, 76;

Samuel Levinson, head buyer for
T. B. Rayles hardware and sport-
ing goods store downtown for 35
years, died Tuesday at age 76. He
retired from his position in 1956.
Mr. Levinson, 111 Highland,
Highland Park, was basketball star
for the Tri Squares team of the
Hannah Schloss Old Timers, the
old Jewish Center. Born in Detroit,
he was a member of Detroit Lodge
2, F&AM, Detroit Consistory and
Moslem Shrine. He also was past
president of the Michigan Skating
Association.
Survivors are his wife, Ruth;
two brothers. Donald and Jerry;
and a sister, Mrs. Rita Reiss.

Belgian Radiologist,
Friend to Jewish Youth

BRUSSELS-Dr. Oscar Inger, a
radiologist who was a founder of
several Belgian Jewish youth insti-
tutions, died here at age 52.
He was one of the founders of the
Federation of Jewish Youth and of
the Friends of Jewish Youth, as
well as of the Jewish Community
Center. He was also a member of
the Belgian section of the World
Jewish Congress. Despite an active
profesional career, he found time
to give many years of aid to the
problems of Belgian Jewish youth
and to the development of institu-
tions to give them an opportunity
to maintain their Jewish beliefs.
