Delegate Assembly
Rescheduled to
Avoid a Conflict

Betrothal
Is Announced Here

In a bulletin to affiliated or-
ganizations, Dr. Samuel Krohn,
president of the Jewish Commun-
ity Council, announced the coun-
cil's next delegate assembly at the
Jewish Center will be convened
Jan. 5 instead of the previously
scheduled date.
The change, Dr. Krohn stated,
was made on the recommendation
of the council's delegate assembly
planning committee because there
would have been a conflict with
many of the local synagogue adult
education programs. Out of res-
pect for the importance of these
activities, the council advanced
the date of its assembly.
Rabbi Balfour Brickner, direc-
tor of the commission on inter-
faith activities and associate direc-
tor of the commission on social ac-
tion of the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations, will speak
at the assembly on "Ecumenism-
Dialogue—Anti-Semitism."

U.S. Postal Savings certificates
totaling $6,390,454, which are on
deposit at the Detroit Post Office,
are now earning little or no inter-
est for 16,551 local depositors, Post-
master Edward L. Baker revealed_
Tuesday.
Nationwide, the Post Office De-
partment is holding more than
$147,000,000 in the now obsolete
program which was discontinued
by Congress March 28.
On April 27, postal savings were
discontinued, and since then no
deposits have been accepted by
the post office. Certificates whose
anniversary dates have been reach-
since last April 26 have earned
their final interest payment.
Those whose anniversary dates
fall between now and next April
26 will receive interest until their
next anniversary dates, but they
can be cashed at any time and a
proportionate amount of interest
will be paid.
After April 26, 1967, no interest
will be earned by any postal sav-
ings accounts, Baker said.
