Israel Cabinet Approves
Budget: Up 10 Per Cent

JERUSALEM (JTA)—The Cabi-
net Sunday night approved Israel's
budget for the next fiscal year be-
ginning April 1. While details of
the budget were not revealed, it
is believed to total $1,700,000,000,
which would be a 10 per cent in-
crease over this year's figure.
The budget will be presented to
the Knesset, Israel's parliament,
in three weeks and will be dis-
cussed well in advance of the start
of the new fiscal year.
The Jerusalem municipality
Monday approved the budget of
the city's religious council total-
ing 1,600,00 pounds ($533,000)
nearly two thirds of which the
municipality will have to pro-
vide.
The approval was voted over the
abstention of the Mapai-Ahdut
Avoda alignment and despite sharp
criticism at the meeting of the re-
ligious council for what was de-
scribed as excessive spending and
padding the payroll with unquali-
fied officials.
