We in Detroit can take pride in Israel's progress because
we have been in the forefront of the historic program of partici-
pation in Israel's economic development. Our confidence has not
been misplaced. Israel, has redeemed every promise.
But we know there are still problems to be solved and de-
velopment gaps to be bridged before Israel can reach its goal of
economic independence. Today, Israel must be strengthened and
more export industries must be built. Tomorrow, the vast empty
spaces of the Negev must be developed and inhabited.
In tribute to Abraham Borman, as he receives the Prime
Minister's Medal "for service in the cause of Israel's develop-
ment," we can demonstrate our esteem and admiration for him
by reaffirming our faith in Israel's survival and destiny. On De-
cember 13th, we can provide vital economic resources to build
a better today and a better tomorrow for Israel and for the Jew-
ish people everywhere.
