2,000 at One Sitting - Raleigh House
Tells $2,000,000 Plans in Southfield

A plush $2,000,000 building in
English Tudor design will be built
by Raleigh House Caterers, Inc.
on Telegraph Rd. between 10 Mile
and Franklin Rds., Southfield.
Posh facilities and an exotic
menu will be available for up to
2,000 persons at one sitting, it is
announced by Samuel Leiberman,
Raleigh House vice president and
general manager.
There will be costumed waiters
and parking attendants, three sat-
ellite serving kitchens and a 241-
foot long lobby large enough to
display not only new cars but even
a locomotive.
A base staff of 125 will be
quickly expanded to about 400 em-
ployees as the need increases for
parties.

ing will have a 30,000 square-
foot ballroom with movable parti-
tions creating areas for as few
as 50 persons.
The building exterior will be of
natural oak with trussed porte
cochere, antique brick and leaded
diamond-shaped stained glass win-
dows of the English Tudor period.
The entire feeling is to be that of
a large residence, Seymour J. Le-
vine, Oak Park architect, explain-
ed.
Inside, there wil be a bake shop,
service corridors to the satellite
kitchens and 2,500 square feet of
storage space for catering equip-
ment used in off-the-premise par-
ties.
The carpeted foyer will feature
a circular staircase, a focal point
for wedding receptions. Two dress-
ing rooms are on the second floor
off the staircase.
Specially designed chandeliers
and period-style lighting fixtures
will accent the English Tudor styl-
ing of the new Raleigh House. In
addition, specially designed china,
crystal glassware and silver ser-
vices will be used.
Parking area for more than 600
cars is planned.
The new Raleigh House will
be built on a 9.2 acre site. The
contractor, Parliament Construc-
tion, expects completion by mid-
1967.
The current Raleigh House, at
18641 Wyoming, Detroit, has been
in business for five years. The cat-
ering service began with small
parties, Bar Mitzvahs and other
private events. Local industry now
comprises more than one-half of its
business "and executives have
been asking us for larger rooms
to serve more people at larger
parties," Leiberman said.
