Editor, The Jewish News: Once again the idiocy and nar- row-mindedness of the extremist element in American society raised its Medusa head to the foreground in the ugly and deplorable display of "Christian" love and hatred at the Detroit Institute of Arts on Oct. 21. This g r o up of "Christians" operating under the title of Break- through fears what it does not know . . . So these people hurling their foul and hate-filled language at the American public seek to hide and find protection by accusing various political societies as "murderers of Christians". It is unfortunate when a wall of hatred and lies has become so thick it is impervious to any intel- lectual or cultural stimulation. I think this group owes an apology to the audience who wit- nessed this shameful display of "American Patriotism". And certainly an apology should be forthcoming from the city of De- troit for the pompous pageant of "Christian" hatred presented be- fore the Moscow Chamber Orches- tra. T. F. P. During the past year, the Government Coins and Medals Corp. exported some $1,250,000 worth. Letters from bank managers all over the United States, addressed to Yitzhak Avni, corporation direc- tor, note the astounding success of a one-time sale of Israeli coins last Independence Day. Reading these letters might give the im- pression that the people of the United States and other lands are going through a new era, "The Great Israeli Coin Rush." Bank managers in Nebraska, for in- stance, order Israeli coins a year ahead. On Israeli Coin Sales Day, which was given prominent publicity through the press, television and a roving exhibition of ancient and modern coins, a Philadelphia bank had a line of 50 people waiting outside its doors even before they opened for the day. "Such a phenomenon," the manager wrote to Avni, "has not been witnessed by us in all the days of our operation." A similar incident occurred on New York's Fifth Avenue. 150,000 sets of Israeli coins of the 1965 issue, which were placed on the market then for the first time, were bought up in no time at all.
