Error in Headlne
on Harry Golden

`Israel Week' Proclaimed Here

The Jewish News re-
g r e t s a typographical
error in the headline on
the story announcing
Harry Golden's la t es t
book, "Ess, Ess, Mein
Kindt." The error was not
the fault of the editorial
department.
Golden's book, published
by G. P. Putnam's Sons
(200 Madison, N.Y.) con-
tains many stories told in
Golden's inimitable style.

TEL AVIV—Maj. Gen. Carl von
Horn, former commander of United
Nations peacekeeping forces, was
attacked in an Israeli newspaper
Wednesday for the "cheap novel"
technique he employed in his
memoirs published in Stockholm.
Maariv, an independent daily,
referred to von Horn's "slander"
that "girls were freed from mili-
tary service in order to entertain
United Nations guests and to con-
duct what he cynically called
`diplomacy' between sheets."
Meanwhile, a spokesman for
United Nations Secretary General
U Thant refused comment on a
denunciation of the UN by von
Horn. In his book, "Soldiers of
Peace," he said the world organ-
ization was riddled with "esponage
and corruption." Gen. von Horn
charged that enlistments for Is-
rael's cause through the alleged
entertainment by Israel girls
"came second to systematic, or-
ganized corruption," The UN
spokesman said that Thant had
read press reports quoting the
general's book but not the book
itself, and that Thant would not
comment on the charges now or
later.

LBJ's Peace Efforts
Hailed by Orthodox

NEW YORK—President John-
son's current attempts to bring
the Vietnam conflict to a peace-
ful conclusion have been endorsed
by the leaders of two major
Orthodox Jewish organizations, the
Rabbinical Council of America and
the Union of Orthodox Jewish Con-
gregations of America.
Although Orthodox leaders have
offered sympathy to President
Johnson on his Vietnam policy,
their statement represents an of-
ficial position adopted by t h e
group's executive boards.
The leaders cited Arthur J. Gold-
berg, U.S. representative to the
United Nations, for his recent
statement before the UN, which
set forth the administration's readi-
ness to end the hostilities and
withdraw U.S. troops if North
Vietnam would do the same and
enter into peaceful negotiations.

of the American Histadrut Cul-
tural Exchange Institute here.

ed national chairman at the meet-
ing.
