the Nazi holocaust to be erected by Bnai Brith on a Judean hilltop
overlooking the entrance to Jerusalem. The $150,000 bronze monu-
ment, designed by sculptor Nathan Rapoport in the form of two
Tora scroll segments, will be the central point of a 500,000-tree
section of the Bnai Brith Martyrs' Forest in Israel. The segments
will be engraved to depict symbolically the history of European
Jewry from pre-war days through the Nazi era. The 500,000 trees
surrounding it will he a companion forest adjoining a similar project
completed by Bnai Brith in 1964. A smaller version of the monu-
ment was rejected by the New York City Art Commission in Febru-
ary 1965 in a controversial decision over, a proposed memorial that
several Jewish groups offered to sponsor in the city's -Riverside Park.
