ZOD Concert Gets Boost From Ladies

An active women's committee is assisting in plans for the annual
Balfour Concert of the Zionist Organization of Detroit, to be held
Dec. 4 at Ford Auditorium, presenting Itzhak Perlman, violinist;
Daniel Barenboim, pianist, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra

!Balfour Concert to Feature
Two Noted Israeli Musicians

Two accomplished Israeli artists
who have gained fame as concert
musicians will be featured in this
year's Balfour Concert of the Zion-
ist Organization of Detroit, Dec. 4,
at Ford Auditorium, Drs. Alex and
Sidney Friedlaender, co-chairmen
of the event announced.
Itzhak Perlman, distinguished
violinist, and Daniel Barenboim,
famed pianist, will appear with
the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Barenboim, who has graduated
from the ranks of the child prodi-
gies into one of the world's most
brilliant young pianists, was born
in Buenos Aires, Argentina, now
is a citizen of Israel. His first
international renown came in 1954
when, at the age of eleven, he was
top prize-winner in the first schol-
arship competition held by the
American Israel Cultural Founda-
tion. Hurok brought him to the
United States in 1957, and critics

at UHS Luncheon

The Women's Auxiliary of the
United Hebrew Schools at its an-
nual luncheon 12:15 p.m. Nov. 9,
at Bnai Moshe Synagogue, will
hear vocalist Lois Ack.
Miss Ack has sung professionally
for 20 years. She is a member of
the Bel Canto Choral Society and
past president of the Oak Park
Symphony Society. She sings in
a three-octave range from opera
to comedy in English, Jewish,
Hebrew and Italian.
Mrs. Isadore Goren, president of
the Women's Auxiliary of the
United Hebrew Schools, states that
a luncheon rally will be held noon
Wednesday at the home of Mrs.
