NEW YORK — With an attend-
ance of 1,200 delegates represent-
ing a nationwide membership of
100,000, the 69th annual convention
of the Zionist Organization of
America opened Thursday night
in the Hotel Statler-Hilton here,
with a keynote address by Jacques
Torczyner, ZOA president, review-
ing the international and American
Jewish scene, the Middle East sit-
uation relating to Israel as well as
plans for an expanded program of
activities for the ensuing year.
The opening session featured as
guest speakers Governor Nelson A.
Rockefeller; Moshe Kol, Israel Min-
ister for Development and Tour-
ism, who extended greetings in be-
half of the World Union of General
Zionists; and Ambassador Michael
Arnon , Israel Consul General in
New York. Rabbi Irving Jliller, for-
mer ZOA president, presided.
The controversial plan for the re-
organization of the World Zionist
Organization was to be the subject
of a symposium at an early Friday
morning session devoted to world
Zionist affairs.
Harrison M. Symnes, Director of
the Israel and Arab-Israel Affairs
of the U. S. State Department, and
Prof. James H. Sheldon, noted writ-
er and authority on Arab propa-
ganda in the United States, will
speak at the Friday afternoon ses-
sion devoted to the theme of U.S.-
Middle East policy and Arab propa-
ganda on the campus.
"What does Zionism mean to the
young American Jew?" will be the
theme of a symposium of the Fri-
day night Oneg Shabbat session in
which four young American intel-
lectuals and professionals will par-
ticipate. Dr. Max Nussbaum, for-
mer president of the ZOA, will
preside. Participants in the sym-
posium will be Rabbi Barry Fried-
man of Cleveland, Leon May of
Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Evelyn
Musher of New York City, and
Carmi M. Slomovitz, president of
the Zionist Organization of Detroit.
The prospects and challenges of
Aliya from America and other
Western countries will be discussed
at a Saturday afternoon Oneg Shah-
bat session under the chairmanship
of Jacob M. Dinnes.
The Saturday night plenary ses-
sion will be devoted to Israel and
the international scene featuring
as principal speakers U.S. Senator
William Proxmire, Dr. Nahum

Harvard Colloquium
to Analyze Relations

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (JTA) —
More than 100 scholars and theo-
logians assembled here this week
for an international colloquium on
Judaism and Christianity, as one
of the highlights of the celebration
by Harvard University of its 150th
anniversary.
The four-day colloquium was
organized by the university in co-
operation with the American Jew-
ish Committee, whose president,
Morris B. Abram extended greet-
ings on behalf of .the organization,
at the opening public lecture of
the event Monday night.
Dean Samuel R. Miller of the
Harvard Divinity School said the
purpose of the gathering was to
bring together the theological scho-
lars to analyze the historical, theo-
logical and sociological forces that
have shaped relations between the
two religions.
Isadore Twersky, Littauer Pro-
fessor of Hebrew Literature and
Philosophy at Harvard, is chair-
man of the seminar on the history
of the encounter between Judaism
and Christianity. Speakers includ-
ed Dr. Haim H. Ben-S'asson of the
Hebrew University.
Other Jewish participants were
David Flusser and Prof. Jacob
Katz of the Hebrew University;
Prof. Alexander Altmann, of Bran-
deis University; Dr. Salo W. Barn,
of Columbia University; and Rabbi
Marc Tanenbaum, the American
Jewish Committee's director of in-
terreligious affairs.

Goldmann, president of the World
Zionist Organization who will espe-
cially fly in from Israel to address
the assembly, and Dr. Emanuel
Neumann, president of the World
Union of General Zionists, who
will preside.
Congressman Leonard Farbstein
and Congressman Seymour Halpern
will be guests of honor at a Sun-
day morning breakfast session for
the ZOA Foundation, presided over
by Abraham Goodman, national
chairman of ZOA activities in Is-
rael.
The four-day sessions will close
Sunday evening with a banquet in
honor of Rudolf G. Sonneborn of
New York in tribute to his life-
long services to Israel and Zionism.
Ambassador Michael Comay, per-
manent representative of Israel to
the United Nations, and Moshe Kol
will deliver the principal addresses
of tribute.
