in South Haven, but he spends
most of his time during the weeks
preceding the election in Detroit,
campaigning for the Michigan
Supreme Court judgeship. He was
Governor Romney's p e r s o n al
choice for the nomination and he

is gaining many adherents by his
tireless efforts.
He was unsuccessful when he
ran, as a Republican, for Michigan
Attorney General, in 1964. But
he overcame Democratic opposi-
tion in Van Buren County where
he was elected three times as
prosecuting attorney.
Governor Romney named him
to the appeal board of the work-
men's compensation department.
He has held many important posts,
