bership luncheon 12:15 p.m. Tues-

Jewish Welfare Federation will
talk on "Education in Israel To-
day."

SHAAREY ZEDEK SISTER-
HOOD will hold the first of its
breakfast-book review series 10
a.m. Nov. 2 in the social hall. "In
My Father's Court," a memoir by
Isaac Bashevis Singer, will be re-
viewed by Rabbi Irwin Groner.
Mrs. Walter Field is chairman and
Mrs. Milton Golden ticket chair-
man for the series, which will in-
clude four reviews and breakfasts.
Series tickets may be purchased
the morning of the opening re-
view, or by calling Mrs. Golden,

ADAS SHALOM SISTERHOOD
will inaugurate its Sisterhood
Study Institute with a book re-
view 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the
social hall. The institute adult
study program is being combined
with a book review series for the
first time, according to Mrs. Her-
man Canner, study institute chair-
man. Dr. Lawrence Berkove, as-
sistant professor of Engish litera-
ture at the University of Michigan,
Dearborn campus, will open the
series discussing "A Pile of
Stones," a book of short stories on
Jewish life in Europe and America,
by Hugh Nissenson. Mrs. Joseph
Katchke, sisterhood president, in-
vites all members and guestS. The
sisterhood will hold its first oneg
Shabbat of the season 1:30 p.m.
Saturday at the home of Mrs.
Harry Kraft, 17955 San Juan. The
theme for this year's gathering is
"Traveling With Jews Around the
World." Mrs. Marvin Cherrin, who
has been in this country for five
years, will discuss her native
Sweden, particularly the city of
Malmo where she lived before
coming to the United States. The
program also includes Mrs. George
Liss, who will give the opening
prayer; Mrs. Melvin Foster, who
will read the closing poem; and
community singing led by the
Sisterhood Choral Group. Re-
freshments will be served during
the social hour preceding the pro-
gram. Guests are invited.
