Zionist and Community Leaders Pay Fred Binder, Head Tribute to Dr. Ted Winshall's Memory of Sim-Lite Co. Dr. Winshall Slomovitz, president of the Zionist Organization of Detroit, said, point- ing to the regularity with which the deceased joined in all ZOD activities as a long-time member of the movement's board of direc- tors. "He was an organizer of the ZOD Investment Club, he was a tireless worker for Balfour func- tions. In his death we lost a most dedicated fellow-worker." Dr. Winshall suffered a sudden heart attack and died a week ago Thursday in Receiving branch of Detroit General Hospital. Born in Russia, he came to De- troit at the age of 7, was a grad- uate of the University of Michi- gan and Detroit College of Den- tistry and was in active practice for the last 25 years at 1567 Broad- way. Besides his activity in the local Zionist movement, he was asso- ciated with Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, Detroit District Dental Association, Adas Shalom Men's Club, Jewish Community Council and other local movements. He was active in Allied Jewish Campaigns and was a former chairman of the dentist's section in the local drives. Fred Binder, president and foun- der 26 years ago of the Sun-Lite Manufacturing Co., 575 Bellevue, manufacturers of light fixtures, died Wednesday at age 59. Mr. Binder, 8805 Kingswood, was a Detroit resident 53 years. He was a member of Temple Beth E. Cong. Shaarey Zedek and the Old Newsboys Goodfellow Fund. A Ma- son and a Shriner, Mr. Binder also was a member of the board of di- rectors of the Children's Ortho- genic School, a life member of Friends of Brandeis University and member of the Thomas Edison and Steinmetz electric clubs. He also contributed to many local and com- munal philanthropies. Surviving are his wife, Betty: three sons, Melvin, Burton and Robert S.; and seven grandchil- dren.
