Tobias Heads Annual Jewish Book Fair Set for November 5-13 Harry Golden to Speak Here Monday Harry Golden, author and edi- tor, will appear at Temple Israel, to speak before the sisterhood, at a paid-up membership luncheon, noon Monday in the social hall. Born in New York on May 6, 1903, Golden was the son of a re- porter on the Jewish Daily For- ward. He attended City College of New York and was a teacher in the elementary schools of New York City for two years before becoming a reporter on the New York Daily Mirror. Later he worked in the promotion depart- ment of the New York Post. In 1939 he came south for the Virginia Press Association, building up small weekly papers in the state. In 1958, "Only in America," a book of essays taken mostly from the back issues of his newspaper, was published. Leo and Maurice Croll have made a gift of a "cryostylet unit"(for the removal of cataracts) to the Had assah-Hebrew University Medical Center, in a tribute to the uni- versity's opthalmology department. The two doctors, Invited to lec- ture at the department, headed by Dr. Isaac Michaelson, were so im- pressed by the medical facilities and treatment of patients that they called it one of the finest eye research departments in the world. The Crolls, 40-year veterans in the field, developed a technique, called "cryoslide technique for cataract removal" using the Kel- man cryostylet unit. They promised Dr. Michaelson they would make a gift of the revolutionary new unit to the medical center. The brothers made arrange- ments for the purchase of the unit by Hadassah at a cost of $750.
