He is a musician who has become an institution in his own time. While known as "the serious musician with a smile," :Fiedler has never hesitated to speak out on such problems as the bad habits of "alleged music low- ers." He charges this group "with accepting music of one sort and closing their ears to every other kind." Fiedler is confident there is popular music as good in its own way as so-called classical composi- tions.
