CHICAGO (JTA)—A temporary
court ban on marches or demon-
strations in Jewish neighborhoods
or near synagogues in Chicago by

U.S. District Court Judge Sam
Perry issued the order on Sept. 14
at the request of the Jewish War
Veterans, after Nazi leader George
Rockwell said he would lead his
stormtroopers in such marches into

High Holy Days.
The extension was asked by the
Jewish War Veterans, and the
court's ruling prevented the Nazis
from 'staging their demonstrations
legally during Yom Kippur.
Rockwell acted as his own at-
torney at the hearing on the ex-
tension. He refused to answer ques-
tions about the identity of con-
tributions to his party.
Meanwhile, in New York, the
Civil Liberties Union charged
the New York City Police De-
partment with "gross abuse" be-
cause it denied a loud-speaker
permit to the National Renais-
sance Party, a neo-Nazi group.
The party had scheduled a rally
Friday night.
Aryeh Neier, executive director
of the Union, said in a letter to
Police Commissioner Howard R.
Leary that the neo-Nazi group is
an "outspoken advocate of the abo-
lition of the civilian review board,
and it seems the police engaged in
a lawless attempt to save the Pa-
trolmen's Benevolent Association
from embarrassment of support

lice spokesman replied: "We've
made a decision, and that's it."

Egypt's combat aircraft were re-
ported as totaling 500, down from
the prior year, but that Egypt now
had 130 Soviet-made MIG-21's com-
pared with 52 of the MIGs last
year. The number of Egyptian
tanks was cited as 1,200, which was
the same total as last year but the
Egyptians have replaced older
types with more modern tanks.
Egypt is thought to have about 100
missiles, the Institute said, but
there is no evidence that the Egyp-
tians have reliable guidance sys-
tems for the rockets, and none are
yet deployed.

to Convene First
Delegate Assembly

The Jewish Community Coun-
cil's first Quarterly Delegate As-
sembly of the year will take place
8:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Jewish
Center.
Dr. Samuel Krohn, president,
announced the session opening
