Call evenings 862-3286, Mr. Hoffman. was a member of the Russian squad that captured the foil team title at the world fencing cham- pionships in Moscow. A press dis- patch from the Russian capital mentioned that the 34-year-old Midler had participated in four Olympic Games and that he ex- pected to make the Games again in 1968. To appear in five Olympic Games is an outstanding accom- plishment for any fencer, but even if Midler makes it, it will not be a record. Not even a Jewish record. The all-time mark is held by an- other Jewish fencer, Dr. Ivan Osiier of Denmark, who competed in seven Olympics from 1908-48. He won a silver medal in epee at Stockholm in 1912. Norman Armitage of the U.S. and Edgar Seligman of Great Brit- ain are other Jewish fencers who have appeared in five or more Olympic Games. Armitage in six, Seligman in five. Albert Axelrod, Herb Cohen and Mary Grafton of the New York Fencers Club combined to win the foil team title at the national fenc- ing championships in New York. At the same -meeting Dave Micah- nil: led the Salle Csiszar of Phila- delphia to the epee team crown. Micahnik was runnerup in the in- dividual epee event, while Gil Eis- ner of the NYAC took third . . . Edward Bourne, 17, won the Brit- ish national epee championship. It was the first time in the 62 year history of the event that a school boy won a title. S * Israel placed fifth in the Inter- national Paraplegic Games held in England. The Rus- sians called Tananbaum on the telephone from Moscow and invited him to the International Carnival of Trotting at the Cents-al Hippo- drome.
