`The ,Investigation' Opens
on Broadway Oct. 4; Takes
Dialogue From Nazi Trial

NEW YORK—The new "theater
season will be jolted into life on
Oct. 4 with the.opening at the Am-
bassador Theater on Broadway of
"The Investigation" by Peter
Weiss.
"The Investigation" appeared
first in Germany, where it had the
unique distinction of opening sim-
ultaneously in 20 theaters in both
West and East. Soon after, it was
seen throughout Europe, on both
sides of the Iron Curtain. The
Broadway production. will be the
first public presentation of "The
Investigation" in English.
All the characters and all of the
dialogue in "The Investigation" are
factual — drawn from the official
transcript of the Frankfurt Trials
of the Auschwitz guards and of-
ficials. Author Weiss studied thou-
sands of pages of testimony and
sat through many hours of actual
interrogations before writing "The
Investigation." Its true subject
matter extends far beyond the
courtroom or even the Auschwitz
camp itself in its merciless ex-
posure of the "man who just fol-
lowed orders."

Play by Eleazer Lipsky
to Go on Broadway

A play
NEW YORK (JTA)
written by Eleazer_ Lipsky will be
produced on Broadway. The drama,
"Bridge of Sighs," is drawn from
a book Lipsky wrote about his ex-
periences some years ago 'as an
assistant district attorney in the
homicide bureau of New York
County.
Lipsky, who is president of the
Jewish Telegraphic Agency, has
written a number of other novels,
some of which have been drama-
tized.

The first Detroit television show-
ing of "The NBA Story," a new
color movie dealing with the Na-
tional Basketball Association, will
be presented on Channel 50,
WKBD-TV, 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Narrated by Chris Shenkel, the
filM presents highlights of last
year's NBA playoffs along with
segments dealing with all of the
league's clubs, including the Pis-
tons.

Ernest Laszlo, the cinemaphoto-
grapher of "Fantastic Voyage,"
painted the extraordinary sets of
the 20th Century-Fox science-fic-
tion saga of the human body with
colored lights and gelatine as well
as odd camera movements. Photo-
graphy actually created different
color schemes for the colorless
and translucent settings which
show "inner space" from a micro-
scopic point of view. Richard
Fleischer directed the junket into
the bloodstream of the human
species with Stephen Boyd and
Raquel Welch (now the star of
Joseph E. Levine's latest Italian
film) joining the safari under Saul
David's production supervision.
