UN 2-7642 SEVEN MILE AT WYOMING By Danny Raskin IN ONE OF THE major hotel chains, every experienced waiter in its employ knows the approxi- mate size of the tip almost before a guest sits down to the table . . . Indications: (1) Guests who study the menu at great length are usual- ly not good tippers . . • (2) Men who wear inexpensive gaudy neck- ties or loud striped shirts are poor prospects ... (3) The type of drink ordered is particularly revealing . . . "Beer for everybody" ranks lowest, closely followed by "rye and ginger ale" . . . "Scotch and water" is most promising . . , (4) Also suspect are pipe smokers .. . Waiters figure that pipe smokers are likely to be the nonconformist type, and if there's one thing a waiter hates, its a noncomformist. * * HAL GORDON, after a visit to a New York night club, remarked, "This place had a minimum. I don't know what it was, but the girls were wearing it." • * * AS USUAL, House of Chung on W. 7 Mile Rd. continues its fine ways of service and good food .. . LANDY, public relations man. in Las Vegas, sends us this one . . . about Mr. Goodman being the kind of husband who believed he was entitled to a night off every week . . What's more, he sold Mrs. Goodman on the proposition . . . So every Wednesday, regular as clockwork, he pedaled off by himself . . . Only one Wednesday, he neglected to come back home . . . For seven years he was among the missing . . . Then, one Wednes- day afternoon, he suddenly ap- peared . . . His wife, overjoyed, began calling all her friends . . . "irey," protested Mr. Goodman, "Whassa big idea? .. . "I thought I'd whip up a little welcome home party for you this evening," she explained . . . "What?" roared Mr. Goodman, "on my night out?" * S • MAUREEN O'HARA and Ches- ter Morris, appearing at Northland Playhouse, made it a regular ritual eating at Uncle John's Pancake House on W. 8 Mile Rd. . . . Mau- reen had breakfast there practi- cally every morning besides! • * * * WHILE VISITING some friends with six-year-old • son Roy, interior decorator Arthur Glass remarked, "Boy did I put away a meal!" . . . to which young Roy asked, "Daddy, why did you put it away? Why didn't you eat •it?" * * NEW . ITALIAN eatery is called The Roman Coin on Woodward near 15 Mile Rd. . . . We haven't eaten there yet, so no comments.
