resort to shabby tactics. It is to the
credit of some of the very top

this province is over 200 years
old and has helped in Quebec's

activity — economic, industrial,

prayed for centuries for the
establishment of a homeland,

blessed with the opportunity to
assist in building it. It taxes
itself to do so, over and above its
fundamental commitments to the
interests of the province."
"Instead of complimenting the
Jewish community for this humani-

heritage, La Nation chooses to
smear," Hayes declared. "This is
mischievous and pernicious. But
Jews will not be deterred from
doing their duty to Canada, to
Quebec and to Montreal, and to all
forms of international 'humani-
tarian enterprises they choose to
support."

Two Charged With Spying for Foreign Powers

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two es-
pionage cases of Jews working for
foreign powers—one with Lebanon
and the other with an unspecified
foreign state—were made public
here Sunday.
The first case involved Gabrieli
Gashmai, 37, a Tel Aviv contrac-
tor who, last April, crossed the
Lebanese frontier with the inten-
tion of migrating from there to a
West European state. He was held
for four months by Lebanese in-
telligence agents, whom he sup-
plied with information on Israel's
army, general security matters and
his own reserve service.
Through the intervention of
t h e Israel-Lebanese Mixed
Armistice Commission, he was
returned to Israel and picked
up by Israeli security author-
ities. Now being held for court
action, Gashmai originally had
accumulated heavy debts.
The second case involves an un-
named engineer who contacted the

embassy of the country of his or-
igin with the view of returning
there. He allegedly supplied the
embassy with important informa-
tion liable to damage Israel's se-
curity.

He had been sentenced to 12
months' imprisonment because the
court took into consideration his
unhappy childhood and personal
problems. However, an appeal by
the prosecution resulted in his
sentence being extended to five
years.

Over $3 Billion Raised to Meet
Jewish Needs ii Past 25 Years

NEW YORK—More than $3,000,-
000,000 has been raised by Jewish
federations and welfare funds in
the United States and Canada dur-
ing the past 25 years for local, na-
tional and overseas needs.
This was reported in the Coun-
cil of Jewish Federations and Wel-
fare Funds' 11th annual edi-
tion of "Jewish Communal Serv-
ices: Programs and Finances,"
published recently.
Last year, the federated cam-
paigns in North America raised
$132,000,000 — the highest since
1957. In 1964, campaign results
were $126,700,000.
The massiveness of Jewish com-
munal services in North America
is indicated by the total income
(from all sources) and costs of
services which is estimated at
$680,000,000 annually.
The difference between what
central Jewish community organi-
zations raise and the total cost of
health and welfare services is

The $680,000,000 estimate does
not include almost all endowment
income of federations and their
beneficiary agencies, local capital
fund campaigns and operating ex-
penses of congregations.
What are the contributed funds
used for?___Of the $126,700,000 con-

allocated for overseas needs, 38.2
per cent for local services and 4.3
per cent went to national Jewish

More Nazi Collaborators
Executed by Russians

WASHINGTON (JTA) Vastly
Dolin, a member of the Nazi se-
curity police during the German
invasion of Eastern Europe, was
executed by a firing squad in
Leningrad Monday for murder and
torture of Soviet citizens, the Tass
News Agency reported here. Tass
said Dolin's crimes took- place in
Estonia and in the vicinity of
Leningrad. His appeal was denied
by a Soviet tribunal because of
the "gravity of the crimes com-
mitted."
The execution was another in a
series of severe punishments met-
ed out to persons who collaborated
with the Nazi SS and Gestapo ac-
tions. Sunday, Moscow reported
that eight Russian "Quislings"—
convicted of serving with the
Nazi and carrying out mass mur-
ders—were executed by other fir-
ing squads.
Although there was no mention
of Jews in the dispatch, it was be-
lieved here that the victims who
were killed in the mass murders
were mostly Jews. The eight
"Quislings," all Russians of Ger-
man descent, were found guilty of
massacres in which more than 3,-
600 people had died. Three other
"Quislings" were jailed for 15
years.
