Flint Couple, Mr. and Mrs. Sendler,
Named State Senior Citizens of Year

them by planting a forest in their
names. They also have been ac-
tive in Yiddish cultural and in
Farband Labor Zionist activities.
The Sendlers have three chil-
dren, Simson of Detroit, Mrs.
Harry (Reva) Ratner of Flint and
Mrs. Sidney (Frieda) Davidson of
Chicago; and 10 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Israel Sendler, two
active workers for Flint Jewish
communal causes for 47 years,
were named Michigan Senior Citi-
zens of the Year at the Michigan
State Fair Monday.

Fair last May, in Flint. Another
couple from Flint shared the state
honors.
They were cited for their com-
munity leadership, having worked
together for the establishment of
a Jewish homeland in Palestine,
and helped organize the Jewish
citizens in Flint. Mr. Sendler has
served as chairman of the Flint
United Jewish Appeal.
A special writing award was
given to Shelly Ratner, 13, the
Sendlers' granddaughter, who
had written the initial letter of
recommendation to the Senior
Citizens Committee making the
selections. The letter listed the
Sendlers' contributions to the
:Flint community, helping found
the synagogue and Hebrew
school at Beth- Israel..

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wyzan of
Cherry dill, N.J., and formerly
of Oak Park, announee the engage-
ment of their daughter, Jennifer
Lynn to David Bicofsky, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bicofsky of the
Bronx. Miss Wyzan attended Nas-
sau Community College, and the
Gloria K. Secretarial School. Her
fiance attended Hunter College.
An August wedding is planned.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stein of
Elmhurst; N. Y., announce the en-
gagement of their daughter Eva
to Owen Jay Shapiro, son of Mrs.
Muriel Shapiro, 19250 Votrobeck.
The bridegroom-to-be is a grad-
uate of Pratt Institute and Brook-
lyn College. He will be teaching
at Northern Michigan University in
the fall.

Schedules Season

Barbara Lee Stern and Arnold
Melvin Fink exchanged wedding
vows during a candlelight cere-
mony at Adas Shalom Synagogue
Tuesday, with Rabbi Segal offi-
ciating.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Stern of Gard-
ner Ave., Oak Park. Her husband
is the son of Mr. Harry Fink of
Ludlow Ave., Huntington Woods,
and the late Mrs. Sylvia Fink.
The bride wore an Empire
gown of peau de sole with Alen-
con lace and seed pearls. The
hell sleeves and train were trim-
med with matching lace. Her
headpiece was a blossom Of peau
de sous with pearls. Her Bible
was covered with an orchid and
Stephanotis.
Mrs. Jack Ginsburg, sister of the
bridegroom, was matron of honor,
and Rhonda Ginsburg was flower
girl. Bridesmaids were Annette
Brodsky, Barbara Sill, Irene Moses,
Anita Feldman and Mrs. Michael
Stern.
Serving his brother as best man
was Harvey .Fink. Ushers were
Jerrold Weinberg, Allen Salomon,
Allan Kogan, Harvey Simon, Leon-
ard Portner and Michael Stern.
Michael and Gary Ginsburg were
junior ushers.
After honeymooning in Florida,
the couple will reside on Green-
field Rd.

to Mark Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mendlovits,
20236 Lahser, will celebrate their
50th anniversary Saturday.
Married in Detroit, they have
lived here since, except for a brief
period in Los Angeles.
Mr. and Mrs. Mendlovits have a
son, Dr. Allen Menlo, who is a pro-
fessor of psychology at the Uni-
versity of Michigan; and a daugh-
ter, Mrs. Clare Winkler, a teacher
in the Detroit school system. They
have five grandchildren and one
great grandson.
Mr. Mendlovits is a Shriner and
a life member of Perfection Lodge
and a member of Cong. Bnai
Moshe. He owned and operated the
Twelfth-Taylor Market for 20 years
and the Dexter-Fullerton Market
for 15 years. He is still active On a
part-time basis in the food line.
