For a sweet New Year, M other's Food Products is suggesting
an innovation: exchange of food gifts for the New Year. This new
Year's Greeting Cake was created especially for Rosh Hashana by
the Mother's test kitchens. Many -New Year customs center around
food—honey and sliced apples for a sweet year, fish at the midday
meal of Erev Yom Kippur, as a symbol of fruitfulness and plenty.
The recipe that follows was designed so the New Year greeting of
L'shana Tova Tikatevu (May you be inscribed for a good year)
could be written on top in frosting.

and nutmeg

1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
a/4 cup raisins
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup sweetened applesauce

raisins. Pour batter into a greased
7x11x1 1/2-inch pan. Bake in a 350-
degree oven for about 45 minutes.
Turn out and cool on rack. Serves
