JERUSALEM (JTA) — A new
complex, of plants for the chemical
industry, to cost 130,000,000 Israeli
pounds (over $43,000,000) will be
built near Arad, in the Negev,
and will be ready to start produc-
tion in 1968, the Ministry of De-
velopment announced.
The complex, expected, accord-
ing to the Ministry, to become one
of Israel's major chemical indus-
try developments, will be built by
the Madera Company, and work
is expected to start within three
months. The new plant, to be
financed by American and Israeli
capital, will have an annual out-
put capacity of 7,000,000 Israeli
pounds worth ($23,000 ; 000) of pro-
duction, of which about $16,000,000
worth will be earmarked for ex-
port. The export portion alone, the
Ministry said, exceeds last year's

"In 1965 there were as many

port.
"But," he continued, "in 1965
JDC had lost $7,000,000—nearly
a quarter of its 1964 income."
This represented reparations
money which the JDC had been
receiving annually since 1954
through the Conference on Jew-
ish Material Claims Against Ger-
many. The grants, which aver-
aged around $7,000,000 annually,
ended in 1964 and despite in-
creased efforts by American Jew-
ish communities through the
United Jewish Appeal, only a frac-
tion of- that sum was made up
in 1965, Jordan reported.
As a result, he said, JDC was
forced to curtail its programs in
many countries. Even so, JDC
aided nearly 413,000 needy Jews
in 1965, compared with 430,000
assisted the year before.
Among the cutbacks he noted
were curtailment of clothing dis-

Tunisia and Iran; tightening of
