JACOB CITRIN

Jacob A. Citrin, founder and
president of Citrin Oil Company,
died Aug. 10 at the age of 61._
Born in Russia, Citrin immi-
grated to the United States in 1920.
In that year he started Citrin Oil
Company, Michigan's oldest Stan-
dard Oil distributor, from a one-
pump service station here in
Detroit.
He was active in community and
philanthropic affairs, serving as
treasurer of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, past president of
Temple Israel, and a trustee of
Sinai Hospital.
Citrin was active in oil industry
activities and served as president
of the Detroit Oil Men's Club,
chairman of the Oil Industries In-
formation Committee, director of
the Michigan Petroleum Associa-
tion and director of the Associated
Petroleum Industries of Michigan.

Jules Kraft, a prominent Detroit
businessman and a leader in syna-
gogue and communal causes, died
Aug. 7, at the age of 60.
Mr. Kraft, who resided at 3104
W. Outer Dr., was born in Lithu-
ania. He made his home in Detroit
for the last 43 years.
Well known among local builders
and investors, Mr. Kraft was a
member of Adas Shalom Syna-
gogue, Keidan Lodge and the Hill-
el Foundation of Bnai Brith and
Tam O'Shanter Country Club. He
actively supported the efforts of
the Zionist Organization of Am-
erica, Yeshiva University and Ye-
shivath Beth Yehudah. He also
was a member of the Jewish Busi-
nessmen's Club.
His survivors are his wife, Shir-
ley; a son, Gerald; three brothers,
Harry, Sidney and Morris; three
sisters, Mrs. Anna Posen; Mrs.
Joseph (Sarah) Parker and Mrs.
Albert (Libbie) Posen; and two
grandchildren.

Yiddish Writer Dies

SAN JOSE, Calif. (JTA) — Pin-
has Rudoy, Jewish writer and
member of the editorial staff of
the Yiddish newspaper The Day-
Morning Journal, died here at the
age of 81.
Born in Russia, he came to the
United States in 1921 and started
to contribute articles to Yiddish
newspapers in New York. He later
joined the editorial staff of the
Jewish Morning Journal.

`Choneh' Dies in Israel

TEL AVIV (JTA) Elhanan Mc
doff, the legendary "Choneh"
was known to virtually every Zion-
ist leader in Israel and in the
United States as - a - colorful charac-
ter, was broughtto his final rest
in a cemetery at Kibbutz Kineret,
on the shore of Lake Tiberias.
He died Saturday at the age of
80 at a Histadrut home for the
aged near Tel Aviv. He was buried
in a grave in a section where many
other prominent Zionist labor lead-
ers are interred, among them Berl
Katznelson and Ber Borochov.

Mrs. Goldsmith Dies;
Active in Women's Groups

Mrs. Annetta P. Goldsmith,
active in numerous women's or-
ganizations in the community for
much of her 63 years in Detroit,
died Aug. 8, at the age of 81.
Born in New York City, Mrs.
Goldsmith came here in 1903. She
was a member of Cong. Bnai Is-
rael, Eva Prenzlauer Aid Society,
Jewish Women's European Wel-
fare Organization and Purity
Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
She leaves her husband, Zell;
two sons, Ralph R. and Shake-
speare (Bill), of Sioux City, Ia.;
two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Hol-
den and Mrs. Harry (Sis) Rosen;
nine grandchildren and 17 great-
grandchildren.

Apparel Shop Owner,
Nathan Fierberg, Dies

Nathan N. Fierberg, president
and founder of a Birmingham wo-
men's apparel shop, died Aug. 6,
at the age of 69.
Born in Romania, Mr. Fierberg
came to Detroit 45 years ago. He
was co-chairman of the sales di-
vision of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign and a member of many pro-
fessional organizations.
Mr. Fierberg, who resided at
10014 Hart, Huntington Woods, was
a member of Cong. Shaarey Zedek,
Zionist organization of Detroit, Per-
fection Lodge, F. & A.M., the De-
troit Consistory-Moslem Temple
and a 32nd degree Mason. In World
War I, he was a member of the
famed 32nd (Red Arrow) Division.
He leaves his wife, Irene; a son,
Morris; a brother, three sisters
and three grandchildren.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Siegfriei'
Ullman, the late American Jew-
ish industrialist and philanthropist,
was reinterred at Rehovot Ceme-
tery.
In a ceremony attended by Mr.
Ullman's widow and children,
Finance Miniiter Pinhas Sapir and
hundreds of mourners, Meyer Weis-
gal, chairman of the executive
council of the Weizmann Institute,
paid tribute to Ullman's generosity.
The Weizmann Institute's Center
of Life Sciences was donated by
Ullman and bears his name.

Former Mayor Dies

CULVER CITY, Calif. (JTA) —
Harold J. Shields, former Mayor
of Culver City and executive vice-
president of the Savings and Loan
Association died here. A graduate
of Law School and a member of
the bar of Pennsylvania and Cali-
fornia, he was president of Culver
City's Temple Akiba.

The Jewish News regrets that in
the obituary of Dora Bragman
which appeared in last week's
paper the name of her husband,
Michael, was erroneously omitted.
