The cargo, consisting of Ameri- can-made trucks and excavating equipment, was seized by the Egyp- tians as the Dutch ship was at- tempting to pass through the Suez Canal. The trucks and equipment had been picked up in Somalia, where it had been sold to an unidenified British firm by Paul Smith Con- struction Company, of Tampa, Fla. It was not clear whether the Tam- pa concern or the British firm owned the cargo, but the Egyptians claimed that purchase of the equip- ment had been facilitated through a loan by the Swiss-Israel Trade Bank of Geneva. Marine sources here said there was doubt whether the cargo could have been bound for Israel since a shipment from Somalia to Israel would not have to go through the Suez Canal, using instead the route to Eilat, Israel via the Gulf of Aqaba. In the Spanish bullrings he is known as "El Andaluz" and on the cape he carries is emblazon- ed a Star of David. Sasson first entered the bull- ring at the age of 14 and was promptly gored. Despite this in- itial setback he went back into the ring and has since been gored on three other occasions. All this over the strong objections of his parents. Sasson has six more months to go before he earns a university degree in engineering. However Randy intends to keep fighting bulls. "I'll always be an amateur," he said, "Ill take the money but I won't ask for it." Sasson is not the first Jew to test himself in the bullring. The first was Sidney Franklin of Brooklyn who was a favorite in Spain in the 1920s and 30s. * Touring golf pro Roger Gins- berg is beginning to make others take note. Ginsberg has been play- ing the circuit since 1963 but it was't until this year that anybody cared. Now, however, he is begin- ning to win himself some money. His biggest moment came after the second round of the $100,000 Buick Open. He was in second place with a 141. It didn't last. He ended up tied for 11th place with a 72-hole total of 291 rounds of 71-70-76-74. He pocketed $1,975 for his efforts. That was not his biggest payoff. It came at the Memphis Open where Ginsberg took down $2,175 on a 72-hole total of • 277. This tied him for ninth place with rounds of 67-70-72-68. Some of Ginsberg's other checks have read $725 at the Western Open; $700 at the New Orleans Open; and $637 at the Minnesota Golf Classic. He failed to qualify for the U.S. Open. This may not be top money, but to a guy who was 136th on the pro money list in 1965, well. Ginsberg who is from New York is especi- ally happy when he does well be- cause there are so few New Yorkers on the tour. He almost gave up touring last year after he got married, but he has now decided to be a full-fledged touring pro. His father, Robert, is a prosper- ous fur merchant. He wrote the $10,000 check that gave Roger his start on the tour. The elder Ginsberg feels it is the best in- vestment he ever made. * * Marty F 1 e c k m an of Houston helped his school defend its NCAA Golf Championship, then lost the individual title he won last year. Fleckman fired rounds of 74-69- 78-69-290 to tie for eighth place. At the Trans-Mississippi amateur he was runner-up to the medal win- ner with a 36-hole total of 138, then reached the quarterfinals of the match play. * * * Dick Sider° wf, a 28-year-old stockbroker from Westport, Conn., has been playing superior golf this season. The part-time performer is one of the best amateurs in the East. His first big win of the year was the William D. Richardson Memorial golf tournament in New York, he shot an even par 216 for 54-holes. Siderowf followed that by winning the William Rice Hoch- ster Memorial in New York with a 36-hole 73-75 — 148. The Connecticut star then cap- tured the Northeast Invitational in Rumford, R.I., as he shot a record 209 for 54-holes on rounds of 70- 68-71. He lost the Ike golf champ- ionships at the Wyckagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y., on a sudden death playoff. Golf pro Andrea Cohn is now Mrs. David Fischer.
