SEVEN MILE AT WYOMING

COMIC LENNY BRUCE who
recently passed away, was noted
as the newest proponent of social
significance . . . and ready to fight
the world at the drop of a gag .. .
He was proud to be called "The
Rebel with a Caustic Cause." .. .
Mrs. Bruce's bad little boy an-
sewered the showers of critical
hailstones that assailed him. "I'll
always be accused of bad taste,
especially by people who eat in
restaurants that reserve the right
to refuse service to anyone." .. .
When his name was mentioned to
Ed Sullivan for a TV appearance,
Ed asked what safeguards he
would have against the use of
questionable material . . . Bruce
suggested electrobes taped to his
heart . . . "If I say anything wrong
—zip—I'm dead. It could be a TV
first!" . . . Nobody escaped
Lenny's brain whip, from the
President of the United States to
his fellow performers . . . He mur-
d e r e d an American comic who,
having forced his agent to book
him into the Palladium in London,
lays such a big egg that he is re-
duced to urging his English
audience to bomb Ireland .. . At
a mine disaster he had a promoter
growl at a child, "Get away from
there, kid, stop kicking dirt in the
hole." . . . Lenny admitted he
wasn't going to change the world
. . . "But certain areas of society

bug me, man, and satirizing them,
aside from being lucrative, pro-
vides a release for me." . . . "By
any moralistic yardstick," lectured
Lenny, "Jimmy Walker was cer-
tainly a more neinous figure than
some poor schlub I read about
that breaks into a warehouse and
steals a couple of tires. So, the
public raises its eyebrows at this
handcuffed, unshaven villain and
Hollywood eulogizes Walker by
making a picture of his life. Its
the old cliche — there's no such
thing as a little pregnant." Lenny
admitted. "We're all hustlers —
we're all as honest as we can
afford to be."
PHIL MOSCOWITZ and wife
Dorothy are the sole owners now
of Embers Delicatessen-Restam-
ant on W. 7 Mile Rd. about five
blocks east of Southfield. Other
partner, Ed Shapior, couldn't take
the hours so Phil and Dorothy have
taken over . . . Big feature is stay-
ing open until 12 p.m. Mon. through
Fri. and Sat. until 2 a.m. instead
of closing early as the trend seems
to be.
TURK PRUJANSKY has taken
over at the Penthouse downtown
on Park . . . Turk is aptly nick-
named "The Pied Piper" in nitery
circles . .. because folks seem to
follow him wherever he goes . . .
When Turk takes over, the place
starts jumping . . . Everybody
knows one another and all have
a good time . . But the most im-
portant thing is he is the one that
brings them together . . . The Pent-
house is noted for its fine dinners
as well as being a cocktail lounge
. . . Seating capacity is about 100
and Turk already has plans for a
piano bar and other atmospheric
delights . . . Presently, there is
dancing and a rhythmic three-
piece combo and songstress.
FOOD LAWS . . . Cream puffs
were once declared against the
pure food laws in Marion, 0. . .
Members of the Wisconsin leg-
islature, always on the lookout to
boost their farm procuts, passed
an ordinances making it compul-
sory for all boarding houses, clubs,
hotels and restaurants to serve
free, with every meal sold at 25
cents or more, not less than two-
thirds of an ounce of their
famous cheese.
