New Northland Theatre to Open This Month Richard Sloan, with his brother Eugene, owners of Suburban De- troit Theaters, Inc., are opening the Northland Theater, on Joseph L. Hudson Dr., Northland Center. It is a co-venture with Adolph and Irving Goldberg of Community Theaters. An August opening date is planned. Eugene Sloan, whose specialty HELD OVER 2nd BIG WEEK! kept in a plush Pad She played the Game and payed the Price! ' in the operation of the rapidly growing theater chain is the plan- ning, design and supervision of con- struction, said that the new theater is calculated "to give people a feeling of elegant living, but with a certain- casual flair. The 1,478-seat showplace is built on flowing lines, so that from the outside it appears to be designed in curves to fit not only the con- tours of the land on which it stands, but also to enclose the audience it will serve and the show it will present. The approach to the theater is either from the John Lodge Ex- pressway or from Joseph L. Hud- son Dr. Cars will drive up under protective canopies at the • en- trance, discharge passengers, then turn into the big parking lots on either side of the theater. The screen area has been de- signed for any type of projection, from conventional to wide-screen to Cinerama. Sound will emanate from fiVe major on-stage sources - ...:::. .,-.:.., Columbia Pictures Presents JERRY LEWIS JANET LEIGH Z13111 A cnucH - Ca-UMBIA" (A JERRY LEWIS PRODUCTION) FRI., MON., TUES., Open 6:45, shown 7:00, 10:30. Miriam Fried, 19, of Herzlia and Pinchas Zuckerman of Holon are in the Meadow Brook School of Music's three-week master classes conducted by pianist Eugene Istomin, violinist Isaac Stern and cellist Leonard Rose. Stern, president of the America- Israel Cultuial Foundation, heard Miriam play in Israel, where she attends the Music Academy in Tel Aviv, and he recommended her for the scholarship. She came to the United States last fall and is now studying at In- diana University. Pinchas played for both Stern and Pablo Casals in Israel four years ago, and soon afterward, upon their high recommendation, came to the United States for study at the Juilliard School. He lives with Mr. and Mrs. George Istomin of New York, parents of the pianist. Last December, he appeared in Detroit at a Music Study Club concert. In New York, he has played at a Town Hall concert for UNICEF and in the Town Hall summer park concert series.
