Vaad Schedules Sorotzkin Tribute The Council of Orthodox Rabbis has arranged a hesped, memorial assembly, 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Young Israel of Northwest to eulogize the world renowned gaon, Reb Zalmon Sorotzkin, who died recently in Jerusalem at age 86. Prominent rabbis and roshe ye- shivot of Detroit and Cleveland will give an evaluation of the religious leader, who was recog- nized for his Talmudic scholar- ship and leadership. Rabbi Sorotzkin, the "Slutzker Rav", lived in Slutzk, Poland, for many years before he settled in Israel. He headed the Vaad Haye- shivot of Lithuania-Poland, and in his later years was both president of the Vaad Hayeshivot in Israel and head of the world rabbinical tribunal, Moatzath Gdole Hatora. He was the author of a number of popular works on Tora, homi- letics and rabbinic responsa. Speaker of the evening will be the rosh hayeshiva of Teleshe, Rabbi Mordecai Gifter.
