GREENWICH, Conn. — Retired.

times for his assistance to thou-
sands of Jews in Berlin in World
War II, died here at age 65.
Mr. Nylander, ambassador to
Mexico from 1955 until his retire-
ment in 1962, was a counselor with
the Swedish legation in Berlin dur-
ing World War II. According to
his family, he helped "literally
thousands of Jews" to hide from or
to escape the Nazis. He was later
decorated by Finland, Belgium
and the Baltic countries and re-
ceived the Red Cross medals of
both Sweden and Norway.
From 1945 to 1955, Mr. Nylan-
der was Sweden's consul general
in New York.
