The engagement of Robyn Roch-
elle Schwartz, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Schwartz of Hart-
well Ave. to Richard Alan Lewis
was announced at a family cocktail
party. The prospective bridegroom
is the son of Mrs. Sidney Lewis of
Pembroke Ave. and the late Mr.
Sidney Lewis.
The bride-elect is attending
Wayne State University School of
Medicine. Her fiance is a senior
at Walsh Institute of Accountancy.
June 24 will be the wedding date.

Dorothy Louise Sandler became
the bride of Stephen William
Klausner in a ceremony at Beth
Aaron Synagogue on July 4.
Parents of the couple are Dr.
and Mrs. Nathaniel Sandler, 17361
Greenlawn, and Mr. and Mrs. Har-
old Klausner of New York.
The bride wore an Empire-style
A-line gown and matching coat of
peau de sole with embroidered
pearls. The full watteau folds of
the coat swept into a chapel-length
train. An open circlet of peau- de
sole embroidered with pearls held
the short bouffant veil of imported
silk illusion. The bride carried a
cascade of royal bouquet orchids
on a prayer book.
Sherry Berman served as maid
of honor with Suzanne Sugar and
Judith Rosenbaum as brides-
maids.
Best man was Franklin Klaus-
ner, brother of the bridegroom.
Ushers were Michael Sandler
brother of the bride; Neal Rabino-
witz of New York; Paul Barker of
New York; and Howard Sandler.
After a Florida honeymoon, the
couple will reside on Southfield
Rd., Southfield.

Village Theater Opens
in Somerset Park

The new Villiage Theater, lo-
cated in the Somerset Park de-
velopment at Maple Rd. and
Coolidge, Troy, will open Wednes-
day, it was announced by its own-
ers, Suburban Detroit Theaters,
Inc.
Its first attraction will be the
new comedy "What Did You Do
in the War, Daddy?" featuring
James Coburn, Dick Shawn, Sergio
Fanteni, Aldo Ray and the new
Italian beau t y, Giovanni Ralli.
First run in the area, it establish-
es the policy of the theater, which
wil consistently play first run at-
tractions, catering to the Birm-
ingham-Bloomfield-Troy area and
surrounding communities.
Physically, the theater will boast
the ultimate in sound, projection
and air conditioning techniques,
roomy seating designed for living-
room comfort, and an appealing
and restful coordination of decora-
tion, furnishings, carpeting, acces-
sories and lounge facilities.

Montreal Hospitals Expand

MONTREAL (JTA)—The Jew-
ish Convalescent Hospital in sub-
urban Chomedey has officially
opened with a capacity of 120 pa-
tients, compared with the 30 pa-
tients served in the old facilities.
At the same time, it was an-
nounced here that two new insti-
tutes will be added to the Jewish
General Hospital. The establish-
ment of the Lady Davis Institute
for Medical Research and the In-
stitute for Family and Social Psy-
chiatry have been made possible
by two grants totaling $1,750,000.

Christian Clergymen
Discuss Vandalism
on Boston Synagogue

BOSTON (JTA) — A group of
Protestant ministers and Catholic
priests met at Beth Jeshurun syna-
gogue to discuss a series of van-
dalistic attacks on Boston syna-
gogues shortly after the synagogue
was desecrated for the third time
in three weeks.
The meeting was arranged by the
Jewish Community Council of
Metropolitan Boston to consider
ways of ending the desecrations.
On June 14, five youths were sur-
prised in the building by Julius
Epstein, 83, who was attacked by
the intruders. He suffered severe
facial cuts.
George Frank, president of the
congregation, offered a reward for
the return of a number of religious
articles stolen by the youths. He
said the police had been complete-
ly cooperative in efforts to find
the vandals.

of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Heiman of

Schwartz is a graduate of the Uni-
versity of Michigan, where her
fiance has just completed medical
school. An August wedding is
planned.

L. A. Welfare Fund Hopes
to Pass $6,766,000 Total

LOS ANGELES (JTA) — With
$6,193,215 raised by the United
Jewish Welfare Fund before the
end of June, Albert A. Spiegel,
general chairman of the drive,
expressed hope here that the cam-
paign this year will pass $6,766,000
— the total amount raised last
year.

Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Meckler,
18904 Birchcrest, announce the en-
gagement of their daughter, Judith
Ann, to Dr. Walter Barry Cole-
man, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Coleman, 23721 Wildwood, Oak
P ark.
Dr. Coleman is a graduate of the
Ohio College of Podiatry and was
a member of Phi Alpha Pi - Ilrofes-
sional Fraternity and also a mem-
ber of the Zaccharian Research So-
ciety.
An Oct. 9 wedding date is
planned.

Tel Aviv Hilton Gets
Top Zim Lines Chef

The Tel Aviv Hilton has just
brought off one Of the biggest
"catches" of the year in the Israeli
hotel circles with the appointment
of M ax Cymba-
lista, ex-chief
chef of the Zim
lines, who is rec-
ognized as the
king of cooking
in Israel.
At the Tel Aviv
Hilton Cymba-
lista heads a
kitchen crew of
60, 40 of which
are skilled cooks
who hail from
Cymbalista
two dozen countries including
France, Hungary, Romania, Czecho-
slovakia, Greece and several
Oriental lands. Two of these cooks
are newcomers to the hotel. They
are Peter Gerssmarr, formerly pas-
try cook of a leading hotel in
Israel, and Nicolic, who was pastry
cook to King Peter of Yugoslavia.
Between them they prepare up to
2,000 meals a day and offer a har-
monious blend of European, Amer-
ican, Oriental and Israeli dishes
which are served in the hotel's
King Solomon's Mines restaurant
and in the Milk and Honey coffee
shop.
Cymbalista plans to emphasize
traditional Jewish specialties such
as humus and tajina, kugel,
blintzes and others along with na-
tional dishes of other countries in-
cluding fish prepared in the French
style, Viennese schnitzels, Hun-
garian goulash and Turkish kebab.
His joining the Tel Aviv Hilton
marks an end to 14 years at sea
with the Israeli shipping lines but
his cooking and catering experi-
ence dates back 37 years.
Born in Vienna 50 years ago,
Cymbalista first worked in his own
country, moving later to Italy and
Holland. In 1935, he went to Pale-
stine where he became chief cook
at the top hotel on the Dead Sea.
During World War II, he was
on the road with the British forces,
cooking and catering for the troops
in the Middle East and later he
joined the U.S. Red Cross. After
the war and before joining the
Zim Lines, Cymbalista worked as
chief cook in hotels in Haifa.
