MRS. EUGENE KONSTANT

An assault charge against the
assistant director of the Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai Brith,
Michigan Region, was dismissed
by the prosecutor before a sched-
uled trial Monday.
The case against Melvin J. Eh-
renfreund stemmed from an anti-
Vietnam war peace march down-
town, when Ehrenfreund, an ob-
server, got into a tussle with three
members of Breakthrough, the
"action" group allied with the
John Birch Society. Ehrenfreund
was charged with slugging one of
the three, who were heckling the
marchers.
In a formal statement, the
prosecutor's office said "Appar-
ently the warrant should not
have been issued in the first
place." Dismissal of the charge
was moved for insufficient evi-
dence.
Earlier charges of disturbing
the peace had been dropped against
the three Breakthrough members.
Eight members of the right-wing
group and several others conferred
Monday with William Hathaway,
chief of the prosecutor's criminal
division, who declined to recom-
mend a new warrant. The Break-
through members charged that the
case had been "dropped in sec-
recy."
