WASHINGTON (JTA) — The Post Office Department will issue a special postage stamp for the coming Christmas which will bear the figures of the Madonna and Child. Post Office officials said that a "Madonna and Child with an An- gel" painting by the Flemish paint- er Hans Memlinc, which is in the National Gallery of Art in Wash- ington, was chosen this year_to be reproduced on the special Christ- mas stamp. It was said that this is not the first time that the Christmas stamp bears a religious symbol. Last year the Christmas stamp bore a repro- duction of a painting of the Angel Gabriel with a horn. . 1 teaspoon baking powder. 1 teaspoon salt. 1 cup vegetable shortening. About 1/2 cup ice water. Sift flour, baking powder and salt to- gether, cut in vegetable shortening with pastry blender or fingers, gradu- ally sprinkle enough water to hold in- gredients together. Pat into a ball. Re- frigerate one hour. Roll out 1/2-inch thick, fill as directed and bake as di- rected. Rhubarb Pie cut rhubarb (cut in 1/2-inch pieces). 11/2 cups sugar. 11/2 1/2 cup flour. Combine sugar and 'flour, add to rhubarb. Line a nine-inch plate with pastry extending 1/2-inch above top, fill with rhubarb mixture, cover with top crust, which should be 1 inch larger than top, put top crust over top and over bottom crust, pinch 'together with thumb and forefinger all around, prick top with a fork and . bake 10 minutes in 450 degree oven then lower tempera- ture to 350 degrees. Bake until crust is golden brown about 40 minutes in all. To make rhubarb and strawberry pie which is a very good combination, use equal amount of strawberries and rhu- barb (4 cups in all). Line a 9-inch pie plate with pastry, put 1/2 of the cherries on pastry, add half of the flour combined with sugar, repeat, cover, make fluted rim, prick and bake 450 degree oven 10 minutes and 30 minutes in 350 degree oven un- til crust is nice and brown. Frozen Lemon Pie 3 eggs separated. 1 /8 teaspoon salt. 1/2 cup sugar. 1 /4 cup lemon juice. 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind. - 1 cup heavy cream (sweet). 12 tablespoons vanilla wafers (crumbs). Beat yolks, salt and sugar in top of double boiler, stir in lemon juice and rind. Cook over hot water until mixture coats spoon. Remove from fire and chill. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold in cream whipped stiff, add cooked lemon and egg mixture, pour into a pan in which 1/2 of the crumbs have been put, sprinkle rest of crumbs on top, put in freezer part of refrigerator and freeze until firm.
