hobby of batting out his musical

and music to a fight song that is
part of a sports record Diamond

JOE MANN tells of a time he
was showing some friends around
town and insisted they dine at a
restaurant where he had eaten
some memorable pressed duck . .
But he couldn't remember where
the restaurant was located . . .
Over the friend's protests;- he con-
tinued his quest for hours and fi- -
nally stumbled on the place . .
It was only when the orders of
pressed duck were being placed
before his guests that Joe remem-
bered what had made it so mem-
orable . . . It was the worst pressed
duck he had ever eaten!

IT WAS IN DETROIT that
Yankee star Mickey Mantle stum-
bled in the field and aggravated
a knee injury he'd had since high
school . . . He was rushed to the
hospital and put under observation
for several days ... One afternoon,
between examinations, he sat on
the terrace and started chatting
with an elderly co-patient, a lady
who was quite unfamiliar with the
baseball world . . . "How did you
hurt your leg, son?" the woman
asked . . . "Playing ball," Mickey
answered . . . "Oh," snorted the
matron, "won't you boys ever grow
up."
The wise did not become wise
all by himself.—Russian proverb.
