Jewish Librarians Urge Standards Improvement When the lettering on the office door of the Oakland County Pros- ecutor's Office was changed to read "S. Jerome Bronson" it was the first time since the days of FDR that a Democrat won elective office in Oakland County. Merely changing the name on the door was not all that Jerry Bronson found wrong and cor- rected in these past 18 months as county prosecutor. Bronson moved swiftly as he brought to end all that foot-drag- ging in the courts of the notorious Steren Assembly Club and gained convictions of 20 alleged operators, some of whom were identified be- fore the Senate Rackets Committee as ranking Mafia members. Again it was Prosecutor Bronson who spearheaded the raid of the Seaway Civic Club — a new attempt to establish big-time gambling in Pontiac—and nailed the door even tighter on organized crime's oper- ations in Oakland County. As crimes among young people continued to mount during those first months, Bronson felt a way to weed out those in need of help and perhaps nip in the bud future trouble with the law could be achieved by working with those close to youngsters — school of- ficials. So Bronson conducted the Widely - acclaimed Conference on Youth and set up the framework for learning about youngsters headed for trouble before they get into it. He is now a candidate for the Oakland County Circuit Court. He launched himself into the race from his law office in suburban Madison Heights, where he has established his law office and prac- ticed since 1955. He has been a life-long member of Temple Beth El, serves on the Temple's Men's Club board of di- rectors, on the board of directors of the Jewish National Fund and on the out-state board of directors of. the Anti-Defamation League. His wife, Claire, teaches at Temple Beth El's religious school. They live with their two sons in Oak Park.
