THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 28—Friday, June 17, 1966 R oge r Siegel ,711arr1 es Miss _Bonnie Goldberg Ruby Sane, Jury Rules A jury of seven men and five women found Jack Ruby legally sane after a 10-minute delibera- tion in Dallas Monday. One of his attorneys, Sol Dann of Detroit, said "We are going to appeal everything." It is possible that Ruby's lawyers will appeal directly to the U.S. Supreme Court. Dann held that the trial of Lee Harvey Oswald's killer was il- legal because of two points: 1. There was no valid verdict in- the Ruby murder case because Judge Joe B. Brown disqualified himself by writing a book about the case. A post-sanity trial may be held, Dann said, only when there is a valid verdict.- (No rul- ing on this has come from any court.) 2. Ruby's constitutional rights were violated by the sanity trial because if he is granted another trial on a charge of murdering Oswald (the assassin of President People Make News DONALD J. See Editorial, Page 4 The school, bounded by Wyom- ing, St. Martins, Pinehurst and Pembroke, will open in September with feeder schools being Higgin- botham, McDowell, Schultz, Van- denberg and Vernor. Low-sized classes and an ad- vanced curriculum is expected to make the project an outstandingly creative force in Detroit, educa- tors and parents who have become acquainted with the project, stated. George Monroe, former principal of Hampton Elementary School, will be the principal. He has al- ready begun working on Beaubien plans and has outlined the curricu- lum. A staff workshop will take place before school opens. Bernard Coker, assistant director of the department of planning and building studies, conducted a tour of Beaubien for members of the Beaubien Action Committee and administrative staff. The construc- tion of Beaubien is based on the "House Plan." Coker indicated that under such an organizational ar- rangement, youngsters would par- ticipate in a "school within a school." Students would spend two- thirds of their time within a House, serviced with curricular offerings in science, social studies, math, foreign language and English. Each House will be located in a separate wing of the building with only one-third of the students' time be- ing spent "outside" of this decen- tralized unit, i.e., in homemaking, gymnasium and vocational educa- tion. . . .
