Rynne's 'Fourth Session'
to Be Published July 18

With the publication of "The
Fourth Session" on July 18, Xavier
Rynne brings to completion the
only comprehensive history in
English of one of the most impor-
tant religious events in the cen-
tury — the only book-length re-
port on the crucial concluding
session of the Council.
Among the important results of
the Fourth Session are the decla-
ration on religious liberty, the
declaration on non-Christian re-
ligions and the promulgation of
the famous "Schema 13: On the
Church in the Modern World."

Gail Elaine Schwartz
to Wed Alan Sugar

Mr. and Mrs. Barney J. Schwartz,
19331 Strathcona, announce the
engagement of their daughter Gail
Elaine to Alan Sugar, son of Dr.
and Mrs. H. Saul Sugar, 18140 San
Juan.
Miss Schwartz is a senior at the
University of Michigan, where she
is affiliated with Sigma Delta Tau
sorority. Mr. Sugar is a graduate
of the University of Michigan and
now attends the university's medi-
cal school, where he is a member
of Phi Delta Epsilon.
A May wedding is planned.

No doubt it will surprise many
of our readers to learn that Shad
is a species of herring but with a
total absence of teeth. Shad is a
salt water fish netted when it
leaves the Atlantic, the Mediter-
ranean or Caspian, to spawn in
fresh water rivers.
A species of the fish spawns in
the Rhine River in Germany where
it is known as "Maiefisch," named
for the month when it spawns in
the Hudson River, in New York,
where our mothers first encoun-
tered it. Maybe it was its relation-
ship to the herring family that first
attracted our mothers to the shad,
albeit unknowingly. Broiled shad
became a favorite in season, which
is why we devote a column to it.
Its roe, too, is delicious broiled or
fried in butter, oil or margarine
and lemon juice. It is broiled like
the fish.
Orange cake makes a delicious
dessert for this fish course.
Fish should be broiled five
inches from a medium flame and
should be constantly basted as it
cooks. A double boiler is a very
handy instrument. The fish is held
firmly between the hinged halves
of the folded grate and is easily
turned and removed from the
oven. In the New York City mar-
kets it is split and boned. The
whole fish generally weighs from
three to four pounds.

Spruce-up, clean-up, tidy-up —
Keep Detroit Beautiful.

Wash the fish, roll in melted butter
then in flour, season with salt and
pepper, dot with butter, margarine or
