combined effort by the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee, the Claims
Conference and the European Jew-
ish communities, it is estimated
that over 50,000 out of 135,000 Jew-
ish children in Europe, or nearly
40 per cent, attend a Jewish day
or supplementary school before
they reach the age of 17, it was
stated by Charles H. Jordan, ex-
ecutive vice chairman and direc-
tor-general of the Joint Distribu-
tion Committee.

Jordan said that over 30,000 are
currently enrolled. Thos repre-
sents an over-all increase of about
13,000 children since 1959, accord-
ing to figures presented in the
