Rabbi Jacob Wohlgelernter Dies; Toronto Educator Was Detroiter's Kin TORONTO — Rabbi Jacob Isaac Wohlgelernter, prominent Toronto rabbi, educator and writer, died May 26 of a heart attack at age 68. He was the brother of Rabbi Solomon P. Wohlgelernter of De- troit, spiritual leader of Cong. Beth Gerhard Schroeder Dies at 58; Headed Labor Israel Group NEW YORK — Gerhard Schroeder, crusader against Nazism, died May 25 at , age 58. Vienna-born Schroeder had been head of the Greater New York Business and Industry Division of the National Com- mittee for Labor Israel since 1944, and executive director of the committee's Greater New York Histadrut Council since its formation several years ago. In the 1930s he was, for a time, secretary to Mrs. Irene Harand, founder of an anti-Nazi group in Austria called the World Organization Against Race Hatred and Human Misery. • In 1937, realizing the occupa- tion of Austria by the Germans was nearing, he came to the United States, giving up his surname of Schnap and taking that of Schroeder in order to protect members of his family still in Europe. He never re- sumed the former name. In New York, he became an active speaker against Nazism, cautioning audiences against "shrugging off and laughing at" the threat of Nazism. Schroeder, who later became an American citizen and served as a private in the United States Army in World War II, had visited Is- rael many times and was a mem- ber of the Farband Labor Zionist Order. Daniel Greenblatt; Nutt Motors Head Daniel Greenblatt, president and co-owner of Nutt Motors, 2940 E. Jefferson, for 20 years, died Mon- day at age 64. Israel Eliezer is rabbi of Young Israel of Man- hattan congregation and also is on the staff of Yeshiva University serving as assistant professor. Nathan Sosin, 70 Nathan Sosin, honorary past president of Brandeis Lodge, Bnai Brith, and an active member of several other organizations in the community, died May 27. Mr. Sosin, 20037 Marlowe, was born in Russia 70 years ago and lived in Detroit 51 years. He owned confectionary stores at various times on Hastings, Dexter and Lin- wood streets and was a member of Cong. Bnai David, the Jewish Community Council and the Ideal Loan Association.
