The booklet, "Water Damaged Files, Papers and Records" was written by George H. Amber, who once headed the Document Re- clamation Service, Inc., of Royal Oak. He has since gone into an- other field of interest. Bookbinder Carolyn Horton sent out the appeal for the book- let informing Amber that "We are struggling with about 200,000 water-damaged books, experi- menting with freeze drying, thinking of putting those we can't handle in cold storage, if possible blast frozen to form the smallest possible crystals." Miss Horton said she learned about Amber's booklet in a course at Cooperstown University on con- servation of valuable books and documents. Expressing his surprise at the request, Amber said he had prac- tically forgotten that he ever had an interest in the subject. He also sent a copy to the librarian of the Seminary.
