She- started out as a doorbell ringer, then became a captain. She's still a Torch Drive worker and also chair- man of the Edu- cation Commit- tee of Women for the United Foundation. She is also a mem- ber of the WUF board of direc- tors. Because Mrs. Winkelman feels that her con- tribution in time and effort, though small, is still of vital im- portance to the Mrs. Winkelman overall Torch Drive campaign, she has agreed to add her voice to recruit more door-to-door volunteers for the 1966 Torch Drive. She has been selected as one of five volunteers in the metro- politan area who are representa- tive of thousands of workers who knocked on doors every year, bringing the message of the United Foundation and its services di- rectly into the homes. This year's Torch Drive starts Oct. 18 and runs through Nov. 10. Last year more than $25,000,000 was raised to support more than 200 services. Besides her work for the UF, Mrs. Winkelman is a member of the board of directors of the United Community Services; sec- retary of the Sinai Hospital wom- en's board; chairman of Orchard's Residential Treatment Home for the National Council for Jewish Women and vice president of the Women's Division of the Jewish Welfare Federation. A graduate of Wayne State Uni- versity, Mrs. Winkelman received bachelors and masters degrees in social work, although she has never been a professional social worker.
