(Direct JTA Teletype Wire to The Jewish News) JERUSALEM — Israel's supreme court was asked Tuesday to hand down a declaratory judgment on the personal status of a Jewish woman who married a gentile in a civil ceremony abroad and was then abandoned by her husband. The rabbinical court in Haifa rejected her application for a divorce although she had a signed agreement to the divorce from her husband. The court held it was not competent to rule on a divorce between a Christian and a Jewess. The woman then appealed to the civil district court, asking for a declaratory judgment, but that court declined to act on grounds that international law required civil courts not to question the validity of acts properly per- formed under laws of another state. In her appeal to the civil court, the woman pointed out she had not been married under Jewish religious law, leaving her in a legal no-man's-land. The supreme court said it would begin a hear- ing on the matter April 26. THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, April 1, 1966-9 Seder Salt Water Bowl with Matching Lade!
