Max Spoon, 67

Max Spoon, co-partner for 50
years in the firm of Spoon Brothers
builders, died last Saturday at age
67. He was a charter member of
Adas Shalom and served on its
board and cemetery board for
Northwest Hebrew Memorial Park.
Born in Russia, Mr. Spoon was
a Detroit area resident 60 years.
He lived at 17299 Adrian, South-
field.
He was a member of Perfection
odge, F&AM; City of Hope Busi-
:,ssmen's Group; Detroit Consis-
_(6ry, Moslem Temple; Hillel Day
School; and the Detroit Builders
Association.
Surviving him are his wife, Rose;
three sons, Ira, Herbert and Lionel;
a brother, George; a sister, Mrs.
Esther Cohen; and eight grandchil-
dren.

Kurt Loewenberg, 66;
New York Philanthropist

NEW YORK (JTA)—Kurt Lew-
enberg, a prominent Jewish indus-
trialist and communal leader, died
March 20 at age 66.
Born in Berlin, Lewenberg came
to the United States in 1938 and
was active for many years in nu-
merous philanthropic activities, in-
cluding the United Jewish Appeal
and the Federation of Jewish Phi-
lanthropies.

Physician, Surgeon

Dr. Ruth Goldman (Berkman),
physician and surgeon for 22
years, died Tuesday at age 48.
Dr. Goldman, born in Waco, Tex.,
was a graduate of Baylor Univer-
sity's undergraduate and medical
schools. She was a member of the
American Medical Association and
the Oakland County Medical So-
ciety. With offices at 31555 W. 10
Mile, Farmington, she also was on
the staff of Brent Hospital.
She leaves her husband, Irwin,
20536 Charlton Sq., Southfield; and
two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Naomi)
Denison and Mrs. Henry (Pauline)
Jacobson of Fort Worth.

Mitchell Shaw, father of Jewish
Center Executive Director Irwin
Shaw, died last Friday at age 85.
Mr. Shaw, 18481 Santa Rosa,
was a retired varieties merchant.
Born in Russia, he lived in De-
troit 65 years. He was a member
of Mizrachi and the Hebrew Bene-
volent Society.
Besides his son, Irwin, Mr. Shaw
leaves his wife, Sophie; sons A.
Daniel of Lafayette Hills, Pa.,
Maxwell and Morris; a brother,
Samuel Shewitz; 15 grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.

Nine Arrested for Attacks
at Cleveland Yeshiva

CLEVELAND (JTA) — Nine
youths were arrested here last
weekend for harassing students
and hitting a rabbi at the Telshe
Yeshiva, in suburban Wickliffe,
police reported here today. Police
said that the youths, ranging in
age from 16 to 20, drove onto the
grounds of the yeshiva in two cars.
The intruders knocked skullcaps
from the heads of students and
struck a rabbi on the head. The
latter, identified as Rabbi Talmon
Fishman, 31, was not seriously
